Rastriya Prajatantra Party spokesperson Gyan Bahadur (Gyanendra) Shahi has expressed dissatisfaction over the party’s ongoing central committee meeting, stating that it is not focused on the core agenda.
Through social media, he questioned, “Has the RPP central committee meeting turned into something off-track, carrying a load in one direction while heading elsewhere?”
He emphasized the need to unite the party and focus on the primary agenda for the benefit of the nation and its people. Shahi also mentioned that RPP should clarify its stance on the ongoing discussions among political parties regarding constitutional amendments.
Advocating for pressure campaigns to push for constitutional amendments, Shahi outlined key issues, including the proposal for a directly elected executive prime ministerial system and a constitutional provision to prevent any individual from serving more than two terms as prime minister.
Shahi proposed that the constitution should ensure “a directly elected executive prime minister and a two-term limit for the prime minister.” He also called for decisions on sensitive topics such as federal structures, secularism, referendums on the president and monarchy, among others.
Additionally, Shahi stressed the need for constitutional amendments to introduce agendas such as lifetime imprisonment and confiscation of assets for corrupt individuals, ending political appointments in constitutional commissions, granting voting rights to Nepalis living abroad, and guaranteeing jobs for youth.
He also suggested banning government employees and teachers from engaging in politics, with the necessary provisions incorporated into the constitution.
However, Shahi expressed dissatisfaction, stating that the central committee meeting has failed to focus on such issues. He wrote, “Instead, we are accusing and counter-accusing each other, turning the central committee meeting into a spectacle rather than a platform for progress or results.”
