Goods worth Rs 29.27 billion were exported to various countries through the Birgunj Customs Office in the first six months of the current fiscal year, marking a significant 100% increase compared to the same period last fiscal year. Exports during the same time frame last year totaled Rs 14.56 billion, according to the office.

The surge in exports is largely attributed to a sharp rise in the export of processed soybean and sunflower oil to neighboring India, said Amit Tiwari, the Information Officer of Birgunj Customs. The increase has been a major factor in doubling the overall export figures this year.

Revenue collection from exports has also seen a notable rise. In the first six months of the current fiscal year, the customs office collected Rs 176.6 million in export-related revenue, up from Rs 103.81 million during the same period last year.

On the import side, goods worth Rs 277.15 million entered the country through the Birgunj border transit in the first half of this fiscal year. This reflects a 6.45% increase compared to imports worth Rs 260 million recorded during the same period last year.

The Birgunj Customs Office continues to play a vital role in facilitating trade, with both exports and imports showing consistent growth this fiscal year.
