Police in Jhapa’s Kanakai Municipality-4 fired shots and arrested two Indian drug smugglers.
According to District Police Office spokesperson Krishna Bahadur Chand, the arrested men are 28-year-old Anjar Alam and his 19-year-old brother Yusub Alam from Digalbank, Bihar, India.
Anjar Alam, who was riding the motorcycle, was shot below the knee. He is currently receiving treatment at the Provincial Hospital in Bhadrapur.
Police said the two were transporting drugs on a motorcycle with the number plate BR 37 AA 8498.
The suspects tried to escape when stopped for inspection, forcing the police to open fire. Officers fired four warning shots before taking them into custody.
Police also recovered banned drugs, including brown sugar, from their possession.
