Project Junkiri

The Project Junkiri was organized by the students of Grade 11 at Budhanilkantha School as a self-initiated project, with technical support provided by Budhanilkantha School and YWCA Nepal. The program was led by Sonika Paudel.

Program Overview and Activities

The program was meticulously designed to cover a range of topics that are often overlooked in traditional educational settings. One of the key focuses was first aid, a vital skill that can save lives in emergencies. Navdeep Shrestha, the coordinator for the first aid segment, ensured that participants not only learned the theoretical aspects but also practiced hands-on techniques. First aid kits were distributed to equip the community with the necessary tools to handle minor injuries and emergencies effectively.

Another significant component of the program was menstrual health and hygiene. Menstruation remains a taboo subject in many parts of Nepal, leading to misinformation and poor hygiene practices. Meghani Aryal, the Menstrual Health Coordinator, led discussions on the importance of menstrual hygiene and the steps to be taken during menstruation. This session aimed to break the stigma surrounding menstruation and empower young girls with knowledge to manage their health confidently.

The leadership program, coordinated by Shardul Paudel, was another highlight of Project Junkiri. Through interactive sessions, students were encouraged to develop leadership skills, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities. These sessions were designed to inspire the next generation of leaders who can contribute positively to their communities.

Collaborative Efforts and Teamwork

The success of Project Junkiri was a result of the collective efforts of a dedicated team. Anurag Khatiwoda, the Co-partnership Coordinator, played a crucial role in building partnerships and ensuring the smooth execution of the program. Pradakshina Khatiwoda, the Sponsorship Coordinator, worked tirelessly to secure sponsorships, which were essential for funding the event. Kashyap Raj Shrestha, the Logistics Manager, ensured that all logistical aspects, from transportation to accommodation, were handled efficiently.

The program also benefited from the guidance and support of Kumar Adhikari, the sports teacher at Budhanilkantha School, who accompanied the students and provided oversight throughout the event. His presence was instrumental in ensuring that the students remained focused and motivated.

Impact on the Community

One of the most significant achievements of Project Junkiri was its outreach to the Singhadeshwari Adharbhut School in Sankhuwasabha, Koshi. Over the course of three days, the team engaged with 133 students, 9 teachers, local mothers’ groups, and the broader community. The program not only educated participants on essential topics but also fostered a sense of unity and collaboration.

The impact of the program was evident in the enthusiastic participation of the students and the positive feedback from the community. By addressing critical issues such as first aid and menstrual health, Project Junkiri empowered individuals with knowledge and skills that can have a lasting impact on their lives.

Gratitude and Acknowledgments

The Project Junkiri team expressed their heartfelt gratitude to all those who contributed to the success of the program. Special thanks were extended to Budhanilkantha School Principal Keshar Bahadur Khulal and Vice Principal Ati Ram KC for their unwavering support. The team also acknowledged the contributions of YWCA Nepal, particularly Surya Karki, Natasha Kafle, and Saurav Gautam, for their technical assistance and guidance.

The Singhadeshwari Adharbhut School family and the local community were also recognized for their warm hospitality and active participation. The team expressed their appreciation to Nirjala Paudel, Kumar Adhikari, and all the sponsors, including Hamro Patro, Softy Pad, Mobile Dokan, and Deuti Gurup, for their generous support.

Future Plans and Vision

The success of Project Junkiri has inspired the team to aim even higher. With the experience gained from this event, the students are determined to organize more impactful programs in the future. The team envisions expanding their reach to more schools and communities, addressing a wider range of issues, and continuing to empower individuals through education and awareness.

Project Junkiri is not just a program; it is a movement led by passionate young individuals who believe in the power of collective action. By addressing critical social issues and fostering a culture of learning and collaboration, the team is paving the way for a brighter and more inclusive future.

Conclusion

Project Junkiri is a shining example of how youth-led initiatives can create meaningful change in society. Through their dedication, teamwork, and innovative approach, the students of Budhanilkantha School have demonstrated that age is no barrier to making a difference. The program’s focus on first aid, menstrual health, and leadership has not only educated participants but also inspired them to take charge of their lives and communities.

As Project Junkiri continues to grow, it serves as a beacon of hope and a reminder that every small step towards empowerment and awareness can lead to a brighter future for all. The team’s commitment to creating a positive impact is a testament to the potential of young leaders to drive social change and build a better world.
